Can a homeschooled student take the PSAT/NMSQT®?
Yes, but the test must be administered at a local high school or approved location. Contact the principal or guidance counselor well in advance of the test day to make arrangements to take the PSAT/NMSQT at that school.

When to Take the PSAT/NMSQT®

  • Students who plan to spend four years in high school (grades 9 through 12) before entering college full time must take the PSAT/NMSQT in their third year (grade 11, junior year). They will be entering the competition that ends when awards are offered in the spring of their fourth high school year (grade 12, senior year), the same year they will leave high school and enter college.

Although some schools encourage their sophomores to take the PSAT/NMSQT for guidance purposes, these students must take the test again when they are juniors to enter NMSC's competitions if they are spending the usual four years of study in grades 9 through 12.

  • Students who plan to leave high school a year (or more) early to enroll in college full timeusually can participate in NMSC programs if they take the PSAT/NMSQT before they enroll in college. Such students must take the PSAT/NMSQT in either the next-to-last year or the last year they are enrolled in high school.
    • Those who take the PSAT/NMSQT in the next-to-last year of high school will be entering the competition for awards to be offered as they are finishing their final high school year.
    • Those who take the PSAT/NMSQT in their last year of high school will be entering the competition for awards to be offered as they are completing their first year of college.

  • Students who plan to participate in a post-secondary enrollment options program(through which they enroll simultaneously in both high school and college) must take the PSAT/NMSQT in their third year of high school (grade 11, junior year) to enter NMSC's competitions. The determination of whether the student is participating in a post-secondary enrollment options program is made by the high school, which certifies the student's status.
Note: Because a student can participate (and be considered for a scholarship) in only one specific competition year, the year in which the student takes the PSAT/NMSQT to enter the competition is very important. If a student's high school standing and enrollment do not fit one of the preceding descriptions because the student plans to spend more than four years in high school, or for any other reason, contact NMSC immediately about whether the student can participate in an NMSC competition.

There is no financial aid for Dual Enrollment students (EDGE program)
Students are not eligible for conditional enrollment in the university.

Conditional Enrollment

Under our conditional enrollment policy, after we receive your completed application and are working to complete your admission file, you have the ability to register for up to twelve credit hours (four courses).  Students registering under this status are not allowed to use federal financial aid, but may use military Tuition Assistance (TA). Once all admission requirements have been submitted, the admissions department will evaluate your file. Students may be rejected if their admission file does not meet Liberty's requirements.
  • MBA students may register for up to nine credit hours providing class availability.
  • EdD, EdS, PhD, DMin, WSB, former students reapplying, and resident students are not allowed to register until fully accepted into a program.

Homeschool transcripts

Students who have been homeschooled must provide transcripts, or homeschool records, reflecting all courses completed, credits earned (or hours spent) and the letter grade earned. Courses should be categorized according to intended grade level. For guidance, view a sample transcript.

Tuition
Students enrolled in Liberty University Online Academy receive a tuition scholarship to attend  Liberty University. Every dollar, with the exception of dual credit college courses, that is spent on tuition in the Online Academy is credit matched toward Liberty University tuition when, upon graduation, the student is enrolled in the university’s resident program.  The total amount will be equally divided over four years of resident enrollment and will be applied toward tuition only.(The scholarship does not apply to Liberty University Online courses.) LUOA student tuition covers the equivalent of one full year of coursework. Tuition may be paid in full upon registration or it may be paid using a ten-month payment plan.  Tuition payments that become two payments behind will incur a block on further student work until the account is made current.
